Merchant Account Glossary: Approval or Authorization Code

Authorization code is the response code sent to the merchant from the card issuing bank at the time of authorization. This code is usually 6 or 7 digit number. If the merchant is processing the transaction via the touch tone service, they should record the authorization code for future reference.
