Merchant Account Glossary: Batch Processing

A batch is a collection of transactions submitted together. It is usually a day's worth of transactions. Most retail terminals and Internet gateway services automatically submit the batches. If it doesn't, it is recommend to manually submit the batch. If the batch isn't closed out within 24 hours, then excessive fees are charged by Visa/MasterCard.
