Merchant Account Glossary: Personal Identification Number (PIN)

A PIN number is a secure number created by the card holder to restrict and gain access to their debit card. The PIN number is the only security debit cards have when processing the card over the debit networks. It is recommended to never give this number out. A merchant is required to have a PCI compliant pin pad to be able to accept pin numbers.
